RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

We value the opportunity to promote mutual understanding and respect between all sections of the school community and to focus on the fact that we are each, first and foremost, members of St Augustine’s, Londoners and fellow citizens. We take very seriously our duty to promote community cohesion. Religious education is delivered within the ethos of Christian beliefs, but we seek to identify and teach our children about common values shared within the belief systems of the other faiths represented at our school.

We assemble together each day to reflect on religious, spiritual, moral, social and/or cultural issues.

Although parents/carers have the right to withdraw their children from attendance at religious worship or instruction we ask them first to speak to the Headteacher about their intentions.

St Augustine’s Primary School is a Voluntary Aided Church of England School and we work in partnership with St Augustine’s Church across the road. The school attends Mass in the church on a regular basis, holds an annual Carol Service there and, each week, one of the two priests leads our Friday assembly in school. The school was originally established with the aim of ‘serving the local community’ and we are very keen to continue to meet this objective.
