PARTNERSHIPS WITH PARENTS/CARERS

We are very keen to work in partnership with parents and carers as we know that children make the very best progress when the home and the school work to support each other. We try hard to include parents/carers in the life of our school as well as keep them informed about events and opportunities.

• When children are accepted to our Reception Class we hold a special meeting for all parents/carers to welcome them, to introduce them to key members of staff and to inform them of matters that will help children make the best possible start to school.

• At the beginning of every school year parents/carers are invited to Meet the Teacher mornings in their child’s new classroom to meet his/her new class teacher and support staff.

• Class teachers write a termly newsletter to inform parents/carers of what their children will be learning about in each subject during the term.

• The Headteacher writes a weekly newsletter to inform parents/carers of current events.

• The Higher Level Teaching Assistant leads The Friends of St Augustine’s.

• A Welcome Booklet, available in a range of languages and providing basic information about our school, is provided to families who speak English as an additional language.

• The School Home Support Worker runs a range of sessions in partnership with the School Nurse and the Bayswater Family Centre to support parents/carers with medical,
behavioural, financial, housing and employment concerns.

• The Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator offers a range of workshops to meet the needs of parents/carers in school and can refer families to a very wide range of professionals who are able to provide specialist support and advice.

• Parents/carers are frequently invited in to school to observe learning, to watch special performances, to help during Design and Technology Weeks, to accompany classes on trips and visits or to support individual pupils who need extra help.
